Evaluation of Digipak

Digipaks are very effective because they display all the information that is necessary for the audience. They are visually good to look at because of the different images of the music videos and album artwork. The CD also has an image on and normally the track listings as well. Examples of the information on typical digipaks are: Music Producer Information, Track Listings, Fan websites address and facebook page, The band information.
The images are attracting people pick them up and look at them so the images play a big part of people wanting to buy the album.
There are different types of digipaks with different numbers of panels and most of them are made out of card to be more environmentally friendly.
The one that we chose was the 4-panel digipak because it is one of most popular. We will have images on every side of of the digipak and have information on the inside and back cover. The 4-panel digipak is also more environmentally friendly because less materials are used to produce it.

Pre Production Work

Before we started producing the music video all the group members went on to YouTube to find different music videos. We then analysed and compared them so we could see the good and bad points of the music videos. We did this to get some ideas of the types of things that are in music videos and so we could use them in our own music video that we are producing. YouTube was the best source to get the music videos because most bands upload their music videos to YouTube for people to watch. There is a wide selection of different types of music videos. It was also a good website to use because it has star rating and it tells you how many views the video has had so we know how popular they are.
You can see the videos we analysed on our own blog pages so please go and check them out.

Treatment

For the treatment we started writing it up but then we decided it wasn't very multimedia so we used Prezi. We got pictures of the location using Google Streeview to make it more multimedia. It also displays the treat in a better way because it is easier to understand and it makes it look better. The reason we did a treatment was so we know the different scenes of the music video.

Analysing One Music Video

B.o.B feat. Bruno Mars "Nothin On You"

This is the video that I am going to analyse for the media project. The reason I have picked this video to analyse is because of the editing that has been used to make the video is unique, and is different from most of the other music videos that I have seen.
A lot of mid shots are used in the video which only shot above the shoulder and that shows facial expressions.
The editing is very quick as it uses lots of pictures to make the music video and all the shot have the singer in the middle. It uses lots of different images put together to make the video.
The lighting is focused on the singers head which makes him stand out and show the audience his expressions.

The Killers Music Comparison

The establishing shot in the first killers video is a close up of some wires in a desert. It is a low angle show of the wires and it moves up to show a letter K. The establishing shot in the second music video is another low angle shot of a man. This camera angle is used to make the man look big and powerful so we know he is important in the music video. The colours used in the first music video are most yellows which represents sand and in the second video it is shot in black and white. The costume that the man is wearing in the second music video make the man stand out more than the rest of the scene because he's wearing a very strong black.
The sound is both videos is just of the music track that the video is for. At the start of the first music video we hear one of the directors talking which is diagetic sound.
The setting for both music videos are similar because they are both set in deserted places which no one around.
